What happened
The Absa manufacturing PMI improved but remained in contractionary territory for a fifth consecutive month in March. The latest reading of 48.7 points marked an improvement from February’s 44.7 points.

Econometrix’s measure of the PMI also improved to 50.6 points in March from 43.3 points in February.
