In summary: there was an overwhelming view that the South African government had failed to articulate a definitive strategy to deal with the new situation. It was felt that Dirco had derived a hodgepodge of unsophisticated Marxist and liberal approaches. Instead, there needs to be a much more coordinated strategy to diversify the country’s economic relations.
