Why does this matter to me?
Due to rising uncertainty in recent weeks about a potential slowdown in the US and global economies, particularly with import tariffs imposed by the US on many countries, asset prices ended the past week essentially unchanged. Investors appear to be waiting for April 2 nd when these tariffs are expected to take effect. Likewise, the US Fed, Bank of England and South African Reserve Bank left key lending rates unchanged, adopting a wait-and-see attitude to determine future inflation levels. Such actions will dampen growth and boost inflation.
